The National Appeals Committee of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is meeting all Parliamentary aspirants who were disqualified or have petitions pending against them for determination.
The aspirants are from the Tema West, Tema East, Korley Klottey, and other constituencies who could not hold their primaries on June 13 when the larger NPP family selected parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Ys1hxKdgabjKofwUvdfgSMpdTYqSa2Tb”]Citi News’ Sammi Wiafe reported from the NPP’s headquarters at Asylum Down that a new petition has been filed against one of the aspirants, Nii Noi Nortey in the Korley Klottey Constituency.
Nii Noi Nortey, who is also the former chairman of the NPP in the area is facing the party’s Appeals Committee for allegedly presenting a fake University of Ghana certificate to the NPP’s vetting committee.
Sammi Wiafe added that the Appeals Committee postponed deliberations on the new petition.
Meanwhile, some members of the NPP from the Korley Klottey constituency in the Greater Accra Region say they will not vote for the party if their preferred candidate one Nii Noi Nortey is not cleared to contest the primaries.
Leader of the group, calling itself concerned supporters of NPP, Prince Kissi told Citi News the NPP must tread cautiously.
“NPP should forget Korley Klottey if they disqualify Nii, because we don’t see the essence of sacrificing for the party anymore. This young man sacrificed as the chairman and has done a lot of development for the party. See how the party is looking lucrative within the constituency,” he fumed.
Prince Kissi also touted some of Nii Nortey’s achievement saying, the NPP under his leadership has taken hold of NDC strongholds like Osu Alata and “has been training polling station executives, putting up good welfare schemes to take care of party members. He has personally funded every party activity within the constituency since he became chairman till date.”
Lawyer of Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 Election Petition, Philip Addison is among those contesting the parliamentary bid in the Korley Klottey Constituency.
