Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)of the Manso Nkwanta constituency have questioned the victory of Quarm Joseph Albert in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
According to them, the validity of the results of the elections cannot be proven as they claim the ballot papers were tampered with.
[contextly_sidebar id=”S6EmhqvqphfiFcNoEuI2adtbIyhD7Eoc”]The constituency’s results were one of the closest in the primaries, with Joseph Quarm defeating the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) , Grace Addo by just one vote.
However, the credibility of the results were thrown into doubt when one of the delegates Yaw Sarpong, confessed to double voting.
Although the EC personnel officials discounted the vote, Ms Grace Addo to petitioned the Regional Office of the party over the results.
The delegates are calling for a re-run of the polls in the constituency and are threatening to vote against the NPP in the 2016 election unless their demands are met.
In a meeting of about 240 delegates from the Manso Nkwanta Constituency, all clad in black and red, the Communications Director, Kingsford Acheampong stated that “there was fraud” during the election although “we couldn’t verify it over there”.
“Somebody voted twice, “Somebody came and vote and went home to change his attire and came back, wanted to vote and somebody detected that he have voted already so they would not allow him to vote…the double voting vote was however counted…and I don’t think it is right”” Kingsford Acheampong said at the press conference.
“We want the party to come out so that if they will go and collect the ballot papers and do recount, it is accepted. Or we want the party to cancel the vote so that we will re-vote, if after the re-vote we find out that the MP loses then we have nothing to do. If not, action will be taken, we will vote skirt and blouse”.
