The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed media reports that the office of the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong was ransacked by some unknown persons on Monday.
A statement signed by the NPP’s Communication Director, Nana Akomea said “The New Patriotic Party would like to place on record that at no point in time has the office of our General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, been ransacked.”
On Tuesday, pictures of a ransacked office, purpotedly that of Kwabena Agyepong were in circulation on some news portals and various social media platforms.
The media reports suggested that the act may have been carried out due to the rising tensions within the party.
But Nana Akomea stressed that the photos in circulation are “totally and completely false.”
“We would like to state, however, that it was the office occupied by the Secretary to Kwabena Agyepong that received some levels of vandalism on the day of Chairman Adams Mahama’s death.”
Kwabena Agyepong and the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko have come under fire from executives of the party across the country to resign, following the circumstances that led to the murder of the NPP’s Upper East Regional chairman, Adam Mahama.
The party’s private security, the Invincible Forces barred the two national executives from accessing their respective offices at the party’s headquarters but the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at a press conference last Friday, called for calm and ordered that the two executives be allowed into the headquarters to work.
According to Nana Akomea, “this unfortunate incident occurred at a time when emotions at the headquarters had reached fever pitch.”
“The act is indeed regrettable, and all steps to ensure that the perpetrators of this cowardly act are identified and punished are being undertaken.”
