Some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in Adeiso in the Eastern Region and Bawjiase in the Central Region would not have written Monday’s resit papers, but for the timely intervention of the Chief Executive for the Upper West Akim District, Ohene Asifo Bekoe.
The students were stranded on Monday after a bridge across the Adeiso River that links Adeiso to Bawjiase collapsed.

The bridge collapsed between the hours of 11am and 5pm, after a heavy downpour in the area on Sunday.
Ohene Asifo Bekoe who confirmed this to Citi News also said the assembly has put in place measures to ensure that the candidates did not miss Tuesday’s papers.
“We used a bypass through the Obon road to Kyekyewire linking to Kwapong to ensure that candidates do not miss the papers,” he said.
“I offered my personal vehicle, pick up and other people volunteered their vehicles which were all organized to move the children through the bypass to the examination center.”
The resit of the cancelled Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers is currently ongoing in some 1,546 centres across the country.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) had cancelled five papers after they leaked and went viral on social media.
The subjects were English Language 2, Religious and Moral Education 2, Science 2, Mathematics 2 and Social Studies 2.
