15-year-old boy drowns in Wa

A 15-year-old boy, Latif Yakubu, has drowned in a dam at Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.

The incident is said to have occurred around 2pm on Sunday.

Latif Yakubu, together with 10 of his peers went to the dam to fish.

However, after a successful fishing expedition on the dam, Latif, who was the leader of the group decided to go onto the dam again in a different boat.

Unknown to him, the boat was leaking and he subsequently drowned.

A rescue team was recruited to search for the body of the boy and has since located it and brought it to the shore.

Family members and residents in the area had also gathered along the banks of the dam waiting for the body to be retrieved.
