The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo last Saturday attacked journalists who were present at the National Sanitation Day Exercise which took place in Takoradi in the Western Region.
Some of the journalists were also heckled by armed Police officers.
Citi News gathered that two reporters from Skyy Media Group, Eric Nana Damoah Gyetuah and Beverly Cobbinah and their camera man Lawrence Antwi Hyde popularly known as Aktive got to the Takoradi Market Circle on Saturday morning to discover a low turnout for the National Sanitation Day exercise.
The Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo who was not enthused by events at the central business ordered Police Officers to stop journalists from covering the exercise.
The minister according to Eric Nana Gyetua said, “my friend, I’m giving you five minutes to get away from here or I instruct the Police to throw you out of here.”
He added that “I was then held by the neck of my attire tightly by one police officer called Nana Kumi. I tried to explain to them that I am a journalist coming to cover the exercise but they wouldn’t listen. I then spoke to the deputy minister Alfred Ekow Gyan who knows me and what I do. He also did not understand what was happening. Eventually we all left the place.”
Citi News gathered again that other traders who wanted to partake in the exercise ended up in a scuffle with security officers present.
