The British Council has closed its offices near the National Theatre in Accra due to the current power crisis facing the country.
According to the Council in a statement, “we are closed to all general enquiries due to power loss. However, if you have a pre-arranged examination please come to the British Council. Any inconvenience is deeply regretted.”
The British Council is a British organization specializing in international educational and cultural opportunities.
It connects beneficiaries countries to the UK to promote global citizenship, build international trust and enrich education.
Ghana has been facing a power crisis caused by a deficit in power generation for the past three years has forced the country’s power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to run a load-shedding program.
Several businesses have complained about the debilitating effect of the power crisis on their businesses.
According to the Ghana Employers Association, there have been about 13, 000-job cuts over the past four months because of the crisis.
Some economist have predicted that about 50,000 more may lose their jobs if a permanent solution is not found.
