The National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Djaba has attributed seeming factionalism and other challenges bedevilling the party to what she describes as a “demon of confusion.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”F41u459AOEmq1FnhSSFkEyy3AD6dyYPS”]Leaders and members of the party are still reeling from the death of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama who died in an acid attack.
Events leading to the murder of Adam Mahama have fueled suspicions that the National Chairman and General Secretary, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong may have contributed to the unfortunate incident.
A brother of the National Chairman, Gregory Afoko, has been arrested and charged with murder over his alleged involvement in the case and was denied bail on Tuesday.
Calls for the resignation of the two leaders have increased with about five regional executives calling on them to step aside until investigations into the death are over.
On Thursday, the party’s Council of Elders reported asked Afoko and Agyepong to step down from their respective positions.
In the face of these challenges, Otiko however believes the party can survive if it resolves to “fight together and bear the struggle.”
Ms. Djaba who describes herself as the “mother of the party” also advised party members to forge ahead and forgive each other.
“We[NPP members] must learn to forgive each other, we must understand that this is a spiritual bomb, there are enemies all around us infiltrating our rights, the demon of confusion is here…”she said.
The Battle is the Lord’s
Djaba was optimistic that God will resolve challenges facing the party.
“NPP is in the hands of God, we say our battle is Lord’s so this is the time to seek God’s guidance and counsel” she remarked on the Citi Breakfast Show.
She observed that some enemies of the party who think they have a reason to take advantage of the party’s political woes will be disappointed, saying “our enemies think that they have a reason to gloat over our political woes but I am saying that we will rise again and even in this darkness of our battle is the Lord’s there is light”
“Lets reflect and rebuild and restore hope for the many Ghanaians who are looking to us for leadership,” Ms. Djaba added.
