Citi FM and many of its listeners have put smiles on the faces of some prisoners and orphans in the country as part of the company’s Easter Orphan project.
The beneficiaries of this year’s project are the Kumasi Central Prison in the Ashanti Region, the Akuse Prison and the Baptist School Complex & Orphanage, both in the Eastern Region.
Akuse Prison
At the Akuse prison, Citi Fm donated food items and detergents worth GH¢7,000 to the inmates.
Presenting the items on behalf of Citi FM, the Co-host of ‘This is your day’ Rev Michael Nuagbewornu said: “we here to donate some items and show Gods love to you. This is just a donation to show our love to you.”
The general leader of the inmates, Michael Anematey, receiving the items said : we are grateful for this love that you have shown us. We really appreciate your love and support.”
Inmates at the prison warmly received Citi FM staff amidst drumming, singing and dancing.
Programmes Manager of Citi FM, Jessica Opare Saforo also encouraged the prisoners to be hopeful and keep forging ahead.
She challenged them to discover and explore the opportunities available to them in the present situation they find themselves.
Kumasi Central prison
At the Kumasi Central prison, the inmates received five bags of rice, two bags of beans, gari, sanitary pads, sugar and several items totaling about GH¢5,000
The Officer in Charge of the Kumasi Central Prison receiving the items on behalf of the inmates expressed his gratitude to Citi Fm for the gesture.
He assured that the items will be used for the purposes to which they were donated.
Baptist School Complex & Orphanage
Orphans at the Baptist School Complex & Orphanage were ecstatic as staff from Citi FM paid a visit to the home to donate items worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
The items, some of which were given by members of the public and which included drinks, bags of rice, toiletries and books were presented by the Administrator at Citi FM, Mr. Matthew Idun, and the Accountant, Nana Agyenim Boateng.
The children and most of the adults present as well could not hide their joy on receiving the items as they danced and sang along to the music.
Mentors inspire orphans at Baptist School Complex & Orphanage
“Don’t give up and keep persevering.” This was the central message to orphans at the Baptist School Complex & Orphanage on Easter Monday during the Easter Orphanage Project.
Staff of Citi FM and volunteers spent some time on Monday interacting with school children at the orphanage.
Various mentors including Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman and Norvan Acquah Hayford and Rabiu Alhassan from the Citi Business Desk shared their life stories with the children in a bid to inspire them to achieve greater things.
Francis Mawunu, a motivational speaker, counselor and teacher at Scott International School in Accra, spent a few minutes, guiding some of the students who were preparing to write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on examination procedure.
He then advised the children to be mindful of their education and to always be fair in whatever they do.
Pastor Fred, a co-host of Citi FM’s morning Christian show also spoke to the children about how they must involve God all they do, in order to be successful and truly fulfilled.
Some of the students who spoke to citifmonline.com said they were “happy and grateful” for the chance to meet the mentors who had inspired them with their words.
