About a thousand people in the Wa municipality have been rendered homeless by a heavy rainstorm that hit the area last Monday.
The rainstorm destroyed properties worth over eight hundred thousand Ghana cedis.
[contextly_sidebar id=”qjbtolVAZtrFtZxFJzmSRgQH58f3gGKJ”]Authorities at the Wa Municipal Assembly says they are overwhelmed by the magnitude of destruction and have joined affected residents in appealing for help.
Briefing the media after an inspection tour of the affected areas, the Wa Municipal coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO), Mr. Sela Hudin and Sali said eight communities has also been affected by the storm.
Citi News’ Upper West Regional Correspondent Latif Mahama said “about 1,000 people have been displaced in the Wa municipality as a result of the incident.”
According to him, the storm also destroyed over 100 homes and public buildings such as schools, mosques, and churches.”
“One of the affected communities had about eight compound houses. In each of these a number of rooms ranging from one to five had their rooms ripped off,” he said.
