Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Nkrabea Effah Dartey (Rtd) has expressed interest to contest for the Berekum West seat in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries which has been set for June 13.
[contextly_sidebar id=”SSPOIIwjMDSbiNrZlXNHlVqIO4OALJGI”]He contested in the party’s presidential primaries in 2007 but but did not win.
Captain Effah Dartey (Rtd) who was also a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the same constituency, lost to his opponent, Kwaku Agyeman Boateng in 2008.
He has also made attempts for the NPP’s General Secretary position but failed.
Effah Dartey has since been silent on the political scene.
Talking about his latest intention on Kumasi based Nhyira FM, Effah Dartey said he is contesting because of pressure from party faithful’s and youth of the constituency saying “any time I go for a funeral or any other function they tell me Nkrabea if you don’t come the NPP will lose the seat to NDC.
He added that “the youth mostly have put pressure on me and I want to contest because I don’t want to let them down.”
Meanwhile, several “non-hard core” politicians have expressed interest to contest in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries.
They include former Joy FMs morning show host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Chief Marketing officer of MTN George Andah and Nana Addo’s lawyer in the 2012 election petition, Philip Addison among others.
