Briefing the media on the incident, Mr Harrison Odoi, Swedru Station Officer One of the Ghana National Fire Service, said the insulting behaviour of Mr Eshun made Security Personnel, including Police Officers busily working, to stop and have him arrested.
According to the Station Officer, the arrest of Eshun will definitely serve as a deterrent to the youth who have always distanced themselves from participating in communal activities.
The people cleaned gutters, swept streets, weeded public places and other bushy plots at Agona Swedru.
The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Samuel Oppong, expressed concern about the adverse comments and lukewarm attitudes of some youth towards the National Sanitation Day.
The MCE warned that the Assembly is going to enforce the sanitation laws to check people who have decided to stay away from the clean-up exercise.
Mr Oppong said the behaviour of Eshun was unfortunate and advised the residents to get involved in the exercise, adding that sanitation should be a concern for all, and not a selected few.
The MCE commended the Agona West Coordinator of the Zoomlion Company, Mr Christian Ocran and his staff, for their hard work and dedication to duty.
He assured them that government would soon solve the financial challenges facing the Company to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
The MCE charged the Sanitation Committee of Agona West to prepare stand by security personnel to deal with people who would foment trouble during the exercise.
George Freeman, Agona West Environmental Health Chief, commended the residents, especially the Chiefs, Assembly members, NADMO Officers, and Media, for their patronage of the sanitation exercise.
He said the massive participation of residents in the Sanitation day instituted by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, has resulted in chalking major successes on environmental issues within the Municipality.
