The Northern regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu says the decision to deny the Savelugu constituency organizer from picking a form to contest in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primary was taken by the Savelugu constituency chairman and not him.
The Savelugu constituency organizer, Mohammed Hafiz has been suspended following some issues he had with the party’s constituency chairman.
He was reportedly denied access while trying to pick the nomination forms to contest as a Member of Parliament for the area.
His supporters on Wednesday besieged the party’s Northern Regional secretariat to protest the decision after which he was allowed to pick the forms.
[contextly_sidebar id=”BahNv2QKD2M1G2Z2BkAZo7vYyAk1o9oT”]Mohammed Hafiz had accused Bugri Naabu of trying to thwart his bid to become a Member of Parliament (MP) because he [Mohammed Hafiz] did not support Bugri Naabu’s bid to become the regional chairman.
But Mr. Bugri Naabu has insisted that such is not the case.
In an interview with Citi News Bugri Naabu explained that Mohammed Hafiz was suspended because he failed to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee to have issues he had with the Savelugu constituency chairman addressed.
“I’m very sorry and disappointed in that boy because I am not a constituency chairman. They suspended him and brought a copy of the suspension so I invited him and the constituency chairman and I told the constituency chairman not to continue the suspension.”
“The constituency chairman informed me that if he appears before a disciplinary committee, they would resolve the matter amicably and the guy refused to appear.”
Bugri Naabu fumed that Mohammed Hafiz refusal to appear before the committee showed a sign of disrespect adding that based on that the constituency chairman said “he will not give him the form.”
Bugri Naabu said despite the directive to his secretary not to give Mr Hafiz the forms, he was angry when he returned from a journey he embarked on that his secretary had disobeyed him.
He said he was angry because the directive was to compel Mr Hafiz “to appear before the disciplinary committee so that he would be cleared.”
