President John Mahama has indicated government’s resolve to institute strict measures to prevent the dumping of substandard products from the Far East onto the Ghanaian markets.

This  assurance  comes  after  several complaints  from importers and other indigenous manufacturers that their businesses are collapsing because of the influx and the preference of such cheap products over made  in Ghana goods.

[contextly_sidebar id=”eX0wuHPe2GbKPamZSzLGubCx9RN9Xhja”]The President said the practice is a disincentive to indigenous industries and must be stopped.

Speaking during his working visit to Aluminium manufacturing firm, Aluworks, in Tema, President Mahama said discussions are ongoing to convince Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana goods.

“…I am here with the Minister of Trade and Industry and also with the Minister of Power and so those discussions have been held and we will see how to use the mechanisms that we have to try and stop people from dumping sub standard products on our market.”

President Mahama has been promoting made in Ghana goods for sometime now.

He believes those products are durable as compared to other foreign goods.

Measures taken by government to promote such goods includes the setting up of made in Ghana goods.

The committee, chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah was expected to design policies to promote a national programme on patronising locally manufactured products.
