The Black Stars will find out how the journey to possibly a first AFCON title since 1982 will look like when the draw for the qualifiers of the AFCON 2017 is done on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.
[contextly_sidebar id=”QevrwdsOEqWoXJoDR58DIkkm3QJYijbL”]The Black Stars and 51 other teams will be put into a draw that will produce the 16 teams for the main tournament in two years.
The draw follows the announcement of the host nation for the competition after Equatorial Guinea hosted the last one.
New law For the first time in the history of the African Nations Cup, the host nation will take part in the qualifying series but their matches will not attract points and will be classified as friendlies for the team.
The group that contains the hosts will have only one team qualifying for the tournament in 2017. How do teams qualify? The first-placed teams from 12 of the 13 groups will make it to the tournament while 2 best second-placed teams will join in as well.
The two remaining slots will go to the hosts and the sole qualifier from the group that contains the hosts.
