There is confusion in the camp of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region as aspiring Parliamentarians pick nomination forms for the upcoming primaries.
This is because attempts are allegedly being made by some constituency executives to ruin the Parliamentary ambition of one Mohammed Hafiz who resigned as the Savelugu constituency Organizer.
There were attempts to prevent Mohammed Hafiz on Wednesday April 08, 2015 from picking nomination forms and the move angered his supporters who have threatened anarchy.
Angry NPP supporters including delegates from the Savelugu constituency besieged the party’s Northern Regional secretariat in protest.
They threatened to cause mayhem if the vetting committee rejects Mohammed Hafiz’s nomination forms.
They shouted, no Hafiz, no vote, no Hafiz, no NPP in Savelugu.
The frustrated Parliamentary hopeful’s Spokesperson, Fuseini Safianu commended the regional secretariat for issuing the nomination form to Mohammed Hafiz.
He described Mohammed Hafiz as an astute politician whose credibility in the Savelugu constituency is indisputable.
Fuseini Safianu called for free, fair and transparent vetting process to avoid pandemonium afterwards.
He warned that teeming supporters of the Parliamentary hopeful would resist any calculated attempt to automatically disqualify their preferred candidate.
The NPP Regional Secretary, Sule Salifu said no party officer had the right to deny any Parliamentary candidate access to the nomination forms.
According to him, the vetting committees are the only constitutionally mandated bodies within the NPP that can approve or disapprove Parliamentary hopefuls.
Sule Salifu however cautioned the Parliamentary hopefuls and their supporters to be civil in their utterances.
He said party unity remained a requirement for the NPP’s victory in 2016.
