Asante Kotoko held on in Algeria to get a goalless draw against MC El Oulma in the second round of the CAF Champions League.
The Porcupine Warriors were given a bye in the first round after their opponents, East End Lions, pulled out of the competition.
Kotoko went into the match on the back of a home draw with Medeama but the same result in Algeria was pleasing to them ahead of a second leg in on the 5th of April in Kumasi.
But they had to rely on their goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi who put in a very good performance on the day to stop them from conceding on several occasions.
New coach David Duncan was with the team and he commended his assistant Michael Osei for the handling the team well in the build up to the match but he thought a more positive result could have been attained.
“The team’s performance today comes down to the tremendous work put in by Michael Osei.
He invested a lot of effort. However, I thought we could have fetched a goal had we been more purposeful upfront,” said the former Hearts of Oak after the match played at the Stade Messaoud Zougar in El Oulma.
Asante Kotoko starting lineup: 1 Ofori; 2 Kus,i 3 Donkor, 4 Amos(C), 5 Abeiku, 6 Owusu, 7 Gyamfi, 8 Akuffo, 9 Toure, 10 Poku, 11 Asante.
