The residents in an interview with citifmonline.com raised suspicions about the operations of the crew who usually worked at night.
The vessels had been stationed in the area for two months.
The Head of Operations at the Ghana Navy, Commander Raymond Kyaano said following the reports by citifmonline.com, his outfit followed up and arrested the crew and ceased both vessels.
He said both the Navy and the owner were looking for the vessel; “So after hearing the news I dispatched some personal to the area and lo and behold when they got there they realised it was the missing vessel.”
“The first vessel MT Azumoh had been missing for some time now – the owner had come to the base to report the case to us,” he confirmed.
The arrested persons have been handed over to Police for further investigations.
“We arrested some of the workers about seven of them, and they were handed over to the Police, the arrest was done in conjunction with the Prampram Police. All the parties concerned are Ghanaians.”
One of the residents who spoke to citifmonline.com before the arrest said “I always see them come with a toll boat that comes from the port so I am sure some authorities at the port are involved. It is a matter of National Security because the port is right here. What is going on, don’t we have laws anymore?”
“We don’t know what they are bringing here. It could be drugs or ammunitions, and something needs to be done because it doesn’t make sense” – she added.
