Citi Business News has gathered workers of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) have petitioned the board of directors of the bank over the resignation of Nilla Selormey as managing director of the bank.

Nilla Selormey’s resignation comes less than two years after her appointment as the bank’s boss.

Nilla was appointed to head the bank in late December 2013 after UMB then Merchant bank was acquired by an equity firm Fortiz Equity.

It is unclear what led to her resignation.

Nilla took over the helm of affairs at UMB at a time the bank had serious financial, operational and reputational challenges.

During her short stint with the bank Nilla restructured the bank’s credit wing which was the main cause of its challenges years back.

She is also credited with changing the face of the bank as well spearheading the bank’s expansion drive.

Some workers of the bank who spoke to Citi Business News on condition of anonymity said most workers of the bank including its union are not happy with the development and want her back at post.

Meanwhile John Awuah a former finance director at GCB has taken over from Nilla Selormey.
