Fire has swept through six stores at the Tamale central market, Monday March 09, 2015.
Large quantities of provisions, bags of sugar, toiletries, tomato paste and diapers were among the valuables destroyed.
Two of the victims, Hajia Abiba Osman alias Never and Azara Issah wept uncontrollably and called for assistance.
The market Chairman, Afa Laminu told Citi News the fire occurred at about 5 am.
He commended personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service for their timely intervention.
He advocated the need for city authorities to decongest the market to create routes for fire tenders.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown as personnel of the Ghana Fire Service have started investigations.
The Tamale Central Market is so overcrowded that fire tenders cannot meander through the unapproved wooden structures.
