The Head of Technical Service at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has confirmed the receipt of some equipment captured in the President’s State of the Nation Address last week.
President John Dramani Mahama during the address mentioned that all teaching hospitals across the country had benefited from the National Medical Equipment Replacement program launched by the government.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News the head of technical service of KATH, Mr. George Tetteh confirmed that the hospital had received some imaging equipment.
“We did receive some medical equipment from the national equipment replacement policy, so we also as a hospital benefited from that particular program from the ministry of health. We had some 2 floor-mounted x-ray machines, one foroscopy machine and one mammograph machine.”
“There were other equipment that were also brought in by the ministry. We have two CT scans, under the Magnetic Resonance Imaging centre (MRI), we had the Computerized Tomography(CT) and the MRI machine itself,” he added.
KATH being the only emergency unit and main health facility in the Ashanti region, Mr. Tetteh admitted that the provision of the equipment would improve health care delivery in the area, since patients will no longer have to go to other facilities for imaging services.
He indicated that “we were having some of them but they were old and these ones are modern equipment.”
“…Patients come to the hospital and they had to go outside to private hospitals to have their x-rays done which of course is not going to help in the treatment very well, but now everything is inclusive…you are seen by a doctor, you are given an indication to go and do it and then it is done in the hospital, so it is helping us take care of our clients.”
