Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members who joined the ‘One Ghana’ demonstration are claiming that some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members chased them out of the on-going protest.
The NPP demonstrators say they did not understand why the NDC members allegedly chased them out when the protest was not partisan.
Some of them who detoured to complain to citifmonline.com, alleged that the NDC members snatched their [NPP members] placards away from them.
“The placards that we were holding were not discriminatory. When Kobby Achempong saw us, he said we are not NPP so he asked us to throw our placards away but we refused because indeed if they are saying that it is one Ghana, everybody is a Ghanaian.”
He said the NPP would not have joined the demonstration if the NDC had clarified that the demonstration was for only NDC members.
“The NDC is a Ghanaian, the NPP is a Ghanaian. They should have rather said one NDC. With that we would understand that indeed it is for the NDC and not Ghanaians.”
Some members of the NPP including Nitiwul and Michael Okwei Jnr are however still with the demonstrators.
The protest which was staged by Pressure group Coalition for the Defence of Equal Citizenship (CODEC) was to protest what the group termed as ethnocentric pronouncements being made by members of the NPP.
The demonstration dubbed “one nation, one people, we are all equal” they say, is inspired by President Mahama’s call for peaceful co-existence of all ethnic groups in the country.
