Hundreds of people over the weekend turned up at military installations in the Western Region to partake in the open day ceremony.
School children and many others from far and near were flown while others were taken on sea trips in military war ships.
Sounds of children’s play filed the air at various Military installations in and around Sekondi and Takoradi.
They were making the best of this year’s open day ceremony marked yearly after independence.
Several other youth groups, educational institutions and cooperate organizations from the Ashanti, Eastern and Central regions gathered at the Takoradi Air force, where they were taken through simulation exercises, the Sekondi Naval Command, where many embarked on sea trips and the 2nd Battalion of Infantry barracks, where others were taken through military drills in commemoration of the day.
Several hundreds, both young and old lined up to board three navy ships.
It was as if Titanic was taking off on April 10th 1912 at the Sekondi Naval base. Many people were sailing for the first time. Loved ones waved goodbye to their friends.
Public relations officer for 2 Garrison Captain Linda Oboh explained to Citi News, that “the Open Day exercise since its inception 15 years ago seeks to open up the arm forces installation to the public and to help them understand the work the forces do in the nation building.”
