Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) are expected to take over the day-to-day administrative functions of their Assemblies from Monday 16th, March, 2015.
A press statement issued by the Ministry of Communications noted that “all regional ministers, pursuant to Article 246(1) of the 1992 Constitution the MMDAs stand dissolved by the close of work on 14th March 2015.”
“Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) shall be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of their Assemblies under Article 243(2) (b) and (c) of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) (c) and (d) of the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462),”it noted.
The MMDCEs have, however, been directed not to take any decision that requires the approval of the MMDAs of their respective Executive Committees.
The dissolution of the MMDAs has become necessary following the Supreme Court’s order for the much publicized District Assemblies to be called off.
