Kumasi Asante Kotoko have confirmed coach David Duncan has been appointed as the new head coach for the club.
The former Ashanti Gold tactician was reported to have been close to signing a contract with the Kumasi based club after coach Masud Didi Dramani was sacked by the club a fortnight ago.
Dramani who led the club to win three consecutive league titles from 2012 to 2014 was asked to proceed on leave in February after he was reportedly thought to be a factor to Kotoko’s recent bad run of results.
“We have parted company with Coach Massud Dramani by mutual consent. It’s a tough decision but the two parties believe it’s the best for us.” Kotoko spokesperson Kweku Ahenkorah told Citi Sports.
The Porcupine warriors also announced the signing of coach Duncan who would travel with the team to Algeria in their CAF Champions League match against Eulma Mouloudia on Saturday.
“We can also confirm that we have a pre-contract agreement with Coach David Duncan who has agreed a 2-year deal with us. “
Coach David Duncan will be part of our contingent to Algeria in our CAF Champions League match with Eulma Mouloudia slated for Saturday.
“Coach Michael Osei will be in charge of the team in Algeria but Coach Duncan will observe and supervise activities.“
Coach David Duncan is expected to sign his contract upon returning from Algeria with the team.
He coached Great Olympics after playing for the Accra-based club in a less flamboyant playing career.
Duncan went on to coach Sekondi Hasaacas, the Ghana U17 national team and then AshantiGold.
He has also coached Free State Stars in South Africa.
