Accra Hearts of Oak have scraped through to the second stage in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup following a 1-nil aggregate win over AS Police of Benin.
The Phobians, who last won the competition in 2004, were held to a goalless draw in the second leg of their tie with the Béninois club but progressed after Selasi Adjei’s strike gave them victory in the first leg in Ghana a fortnight ago.
The margin victory was not as emphatic as many pundits had predicted, although the club will welcome the qualification with excitement given their inconsistent form in the domestic league.
Hearts currently lie 12 on the First Capital Plus table having picked up 11 points from their first 9 games in the league.
