Reports indicate that the seven hardened criminals who escaped from a cell at the Denu Police Station in the Volta Region managed to escape from custody because the policemen on duty at the time were drunk and had subsequently fallen asleep.
Seven suspects escaped from a Police cell in Denu last Friday.
They are said to have stolen two of the riffles belonging to the Police personnel at the station.

The Policemen subsequently mounted an intensive search for the suspects in the neighbourhood after a security man woke them up and informed them about what had happened but the suspects were no where to be found.
Some allies of the criminals are said to have entered the Police Station and destroyed the padlock to the cell to set the suspects free.
They subsequently returned to the Police Station and made away with two AK 47 rifles and 25 rounds of ammunition.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP P.Y Gyinae who confirmed the incident said the Police Adminstration is taking measures to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
