The Bawku Police Divisional Commander Chief Inspector Lovelace Kaletsi Tefutor has confirmed to Citi News that the ban on motorbikes in Bawku has not been lifted.
[contextly_sidebar id=”VJ65HOEsDHXKHAOeWz0XENPOUCto8y4z”]According to him, his office as well as the District Security Council have not met to review the ban on the use of motorbikes in Bawku.
This follows earlier statements made by Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Youth and Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga who told the Citi News that the ban may be soon lifted after consultations with the National Security Coordinator.
Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga who confirmed the possible lifting of the ban to Citi News complained about how economic activities have been hampered in the past years due to the ban.
“While it has served a very useful purpose, it has also has serious social and economic consequences for the municipality. We have been appealing to the National Security to review the situation and I am to happy to announce that the National Security Coordinator Yaw Donkor has given indications that he will partially lift the sanctions and review the banning of motorbikes in the municipality,” he stated.
But speaking to Citi News Lovelace Kaletsi Tefutor said that the ban has not been lifted.
“For now there is no lifting of ban on motorbikes in Bawku. If the National Security has endorsed it then it has not reached my end yet,” he stated.
Curfew on Bawku
Bawku has been under curfew for some time now following sporadic shooting incidents that has been happening in the area.
The ban on motorbike riding was subsequently imposed five years ago, to among other things, forestall the recurring shooting incidents.
