The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has thrown its weight behind the nomination of the headmaster of Tepa Senior High School, as the new Regional Minister.
According to the regional branch of the party, Peter Anarfi-Mensah, is a strong party member and is well known by the party.

Sarpong and Yamin were allegedly dismissed as a result of a supposed rift between them and the top hierarchy of the party in the region which reportedly created factions within the party thus making it difficult to manage the affairs of the region.
After the President’s nomination, questions arose over the competence of Anarfi-Mensah to manage the region but the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Ernest Brogya Gyamfi said the new Minister-designate has served in various capacities in the party and is thus qualified.

“We are very familiar with Mr. Peter Anarfi Mensah,” he said, adding that “he has been a former District Chief Executive [DCE] under President Rawlings; he has served the party on various committees and even contested but lost in our recently held regional elections so the party knows him and he also knows the party.”

Mr. Gyamfi observed that it is the right and prerogative of the President to appoint persons he deems fit to serve as Ministers and so the regional branch of the party will support President’s nominee to succeed if he is confirmed by Parliament.
“We have always supported the President in his appointments so this is welcoming news. We welcome that decision and we will always support the President,” he remarked.
