A Twitter account with the username @Urwatu_Wutqa linked to the dreaded Islamist militants, Boko Haram has been suspended, days after it started sharing videos and photos of the group.
[contextly_sidebar id=”FLtyKxxXZ4ul1lEa9iCNtuqfjC32mRoK”]This was discovered on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.
The account became popular a couple of days ago after a video, fully subtitled in both English and Arabic, was released by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in which he threatened to disrupt the upcoming general elections in Nigeria.
Two days after the video was released, the same account shared photos of Boko Haram attack in Nigeria’s northeastern Gombe State, before being destroyed by Nigerian troops.
The account also denied an announcement by the Nigerian army on Sunday, February 22, 2015 that it had taken over the town of Baga from Boko Haram’s control.
The contents posted on the accounts violated Twitter regulations, which state that “users may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others.”
