The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dissociated itself from a leaked tape on which a Former Finance Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Yaw Osafo Marfo allegedly made ethnocentric comments.
[contextly_sidebar id=”HpEZL2meyFDHvLTiC0R8V4Rck578R8Dk”]On the said secret tape, the former Finance Minister was alleged to have said that indigenes of regions with no natural resources are at the helm of affairs although about 90 percent of Ghana’s natural resources are largely found in Akan-speaking regions.
“ You have all the resources, but you have no say in the management of your resources and that is what happening. Your development depends on the one who has no resources…” the voice said.
The tape is said to have been recorded at a meeting between Yaw Osafo Marfo and the NPP’s Council of Elders in the Eastern region.
Yaw Osafo Marfo has come under intense criticism since the said leaked tape went viral.
Stating the NPP’s position on the matter on Eyewitness News, the NPP’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong said: “Ethnocentrism is bad… we as a political party, everybody knows what we stand for …we don’t associate ourselves with those comments if they were made by whoever made them.”
“We as a party we condemn all ethnocentric sentiments that are expressed because that is not mainstream NPP,” Agyepong added.
He remarked that the party will take the necessary disciplinary action against whoever made such comments in the said leaked tape if the person is indeed from the party.
“If you look at our political structure and our party, it is all embracing of all Ghanaians and so if anyone goes around and make some irresponsible statement, the party has an internal disciplinary structure to deal with that,” Mr Agyepong noted.
In a related development, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party has called for an investigation into the said leaked tape.
