A bus passenger risked his life by clinging on to the back of the bus to save himself just 20p.
Chinese police are now hunting the man who was spotted on the back of the public transport vehicle as it travelled through the streets in the city of Yichang in central China.
The man’s face cannot be clearly seen in the video, which was taken on the mobile phone of someone travelling in the car behind, but after it went viral local police issued a statement appealing for help in tracking him down.
Spokesman Long Hsueh said: “The man was spotted travelling on a number two bus and also changing to different buses as he travelled to the city, which would have saved him a 2 Chinese Yuan (20p) fare for the ticket.
“However as well as being extremely dangerous for him, it was a danger for others because if he fell off it could have been run over by a vehicle travelling behind or caused a crash.
“It also sets a bad example to other people and we intend to make sure we make an example of him if he is found.”
Yichang city public transport group’s health and safety section chief said they had warned all their bus drivers to be on the lookout for people carrying out similar stunts , and to call police if they noticed anybody trying to sneak a free ride.
He added: “We have made a formal complaint to police, who are investigating, and if we find him we will demand he pays the ticket price that he should have paid in the first place.”
Meanwhile, in the UK, a man attempted a dangerous stunt when he hitched a lift on the back of a tram in Sheffield .
The man was filmed by following motorists as he clung precariously to the windscreen wipers of the public transport vehicle.
