The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that officials in the NDC were involved in the drug trade managed by jailed drug courier Nayale Ametefe.

[contextly_sidebar id=”LiuZqJke4KkEqPITHyURJq62qvdo2Dym”]The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has insisted that revelations made by jailed Nayele Ametefeh showed that the NDC government is complicit in the controversial cocaine brouhaha.

They accuse the NDC of facilitating Nayele’s access through the VVIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport.

But, the NDC at a press conference on Wednesday argued that the NPP are rather complicit in the booming drug trade in Ghana.

General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said “in the Nayale’s drama, what the NPP has succeeded in doing is to divert attention of the possibility of their own involvement in the scandal.”

He said the NDC government “has demonstrated zero tolerance for the drug business,” hence it should not be linked to any drug trade.

Asiedu Nketia further labeled the NPP as a party that endorses drug trade saying ten years after the release of Eric Amoateng from jail for indulging in drug deal, “the NPP in their unrepentant mood organized its members to give him a hero’s welcome at the Kotoka International Airport.”

“As if this is not enough proof of NPP’s official complicity in the drug business, a ship load of 77 parcels of cocaine vanished in Ghana under the watch of the NPP and has since not been found to date,” he added.

He further stated that around the same time when Nayele was arrested in the UK, the NPP was hosting a fund raising dinner in the UK hence called for investigations to ascertain whether “her trip to the UK was purely coincidental to the movement of the top gurus in the NPP for a fund raising event in London.”
