The number of people killed after drinking a “poisoned” homemade beer in Mozambique has risen to 69,the country’s state radio has revealed.
A health official said the beer may have been contaminated with crocodile bile.
A toddler, according to the BBC was among those killed after drinking the beer at a funeral in Tete province on Saturday.
The incident is reportedly the worst to hit the area as 39 others are being treated in hospital.
The beer, known as “phombe”, is traditionally served at functions in Mozambique’s Tete province.
It is unclear how the beer had been contaminated and whether it was intentional.
The BBC reported that the government has declared three days of national mourning in a decree published on Sunday.
