The Ashanti Regional Police has apprehended an Immigration Officer for illegally selling arms.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bXUHlW1UHgymbu5zS8oS4nkOZQIWpNjQ”]The Immigration Officer, Richard Atiso, and his accomplice, Akwasi Deyira who is a civilian, were arrested at Bogobiri, a suburb of Obuasi.
According to The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku the accused and his accomplice have been selling arms to anyone prepared to buy.
“On January 14 we had intelligence that a shoe marker by name Akwasi Deyira, 30 years was offering a pistol for sale, a plain clothed policeman was therefore to feigned interest in buying the pistol,”he disclosed.
ACP Duku explained that arrangement was then made by the suspect to inform his brother who was in possession of the gun adding “the suspect promised to contact his brother who was in possession of the said pistol; that is the immigration officer who showed up and promised to get him the pistol”
“The suspect promised to produce the weapon in two hours and therefore asked that they met at drinking bar. They met at the spot and he offered an Italian made running mode 92 pistol with 24 pieces of nine MM live amunation at a fee of GHc 4 thousand.It was at that point some plain clothed officers arrested him and brought him to the station,” he narrated.
A similar arrest of five persons was made by the Northern Regional Police Command in November last year for illegal possession of firearms in Bimbilla.
