Citi Business News can confirm that the Gaming Commission has withdrawn a suit against the National Lottery Authority (NLA), seven banks and Vivo Energy Ghana limited challenging their roles in running ‘games of chance’ in the country.
The Gaming Commission questioned the capacity of the NLA to grant license or permit to the other parties in the case to run ‘games of chance’ popularly known as promotions in their original suit.
[contextly_sidebar id=”tdCn2Kox5D8nhGEtxBq1Dxu97qw6sRLz”]This generated some confusion because the NLA in 2014 completed 10 partnerships with various banks to roll out similar promotions on their Caritas Lottery Platform.
But speaking to Citi Business News the Head of Business Promotions at the NLA Ekow Inkoom said the NLA has been vindicated by the latest move of the Gaming Commission.
“The Gaming Commission pulled the application out of court so there is no suit anymore, so everybody is free to come to the NLA, it is business as usual.”
The NLA is established by the National Lotto Act, 2006(Act 722) to regulate, supervise, conduct and manage National Lotto in the country.
He said,” The law is very clear, with lottery, all you have to do is partner NLA, we are the only body mandated by law to run lottery in the country and all these promos that are going on are lottery promotions for which reason the NLA becomes the umbrella body to supervise and regulate such promos.” He said
