A Dietician and the Head of Department of Dietetics in the University Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS),Eunice Baiko has called on Ghanaians to to focus more on regenerative health and nutrition instead of preventive health.
[contextly_sidebar id=”N16uZzulqD2DWE9OxzVYr80pfJGq41IM”]Eunice Baiko attributed the recent prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke and cancers to the new lifestyles acquired by Ghanaians.
She explained “we need to develop practices like having enough exercise and sleep as well as eating good foods in order to stay healthy.”
Adding that “natural fruits and vegetables are natural medicine to the human body system they contain the essential minerals and vitamins that the body needs to fight diseases and infections, for healthy growth and development,” she charged.
Baiko said this during the donation of health materials to the Tsito Health Center in the Volta Region by Students of the Dietetics Department of the University.
The donations included some medicals items and assorted fruits.
The President of the Ghana Dietetics Students Association in UHAS Julius Evame Agbagba said the donation forms part of the university’s campaign to educate communities in the region on the need to adopt regenerative health practices for healthy living.
With the campaign dubbed “Healthy eating awareness drive’’ he added ‘’we reached out to quite a number of communities in the region.”
Juluis Evame Agbagba said the items which include drugs and assorted fruits were solicited from Elite School, Nestle Ghana Ltd, Tigo, and Best Lab Medical Services to augment what the health facilities in the region already have.
Madam Philipa Ivy Agbozo the Physician Assistant in-charge of the clinic was grateful for the gesture and encouraged other institutions to support the activities of the clinic.
