The founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings received a rousing welcome when he arrived at the Baba Yara sports stadium, where the party is holding its 8th National Delegates Congress.
His arrival at the stadium sparked wild jubilation among the party supporters, as his presence at the Congress had not been expected.
He was welcomed by the President, John Dramani Mahama, who arrived minutes earlier, the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur, the incumbent General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and other members of the party.
He is expected to address the over 3,500 delegates of the NDC who are expected to vote to elect 23, out of the 98 persons vying to hold executive positions in the party.
The delegates of the NDC have gathered in Kumasi to elect executives to head various positions in the party, including the positions of National Chairman, National Organiser and General Secretary.
