Cocoa farmers in the Asutifi North and South Districts of the Brong Ahafo Region have accused purchasing clerks of the various Licensed Cocoa Buying Companies (LBCs) in the area of cheating.
Speaking to Citi News, Owusu Badu, Secretary of Asutifi Farmers Network said the purchasing clerks very often cheat them through illegal adjustment of weighing scales to farmer’s disadvantage.
[contextly_sidebar id=”jRXC52vGyGhHjO7iEPmRjaupplKMCNDF”]“The refusal of purchasing clerks to used the weighing stones government provided for the farmers in the area prompted the association to investigate the various scales, as a result it emerge that farmers here are been cheated of 8 to 11 kilos per a bag of cocoa,” he explained.
He said the activities of the LBCs and their clerks were a major source of worry to farmers in the area.
Mr. Owusu Badu therefore called for government’s intervention to establish a special tax force and also instruct the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) Directors and the Police Service to bring LBCs and their clerks to order for farmers to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
