Over 3,000 students are expected to benefit from government’s free Senior High School (SHS) education policy, the Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Institutions, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said.
The Tuesday edition of the Citi Breakfast Show asked whether the move by government was a good policy or good politics.
Find below the responses from some Ghanaians on Social Media.

What we need is a proper scholarship system that will help the poor and not a wholesale free SHS – @RichardDelaSky #CitiCBS — 97.3 Citi FM (@Citi973) December 2, 2014
When the NPP campaigned with free SHS, I felt it was ridiculous and I still feel same – @JustNanaama #CitiCBS — 97.3 Citi FM (@Citi973) December 2, 2014

@Citi973 it isn’t bad but I think the discussion is overlooking something. How much does the govt even take in taxes that can cater for it? — Benarsen (@benarsen1886) December 2, 2014
They couldn’t maintain NHIS which we pay for School feeding program is always having issues n they want to add free SHS? @benkoku @Citi973

@Citi973 In countries like Finland, Norway, Denmark when u are educated for free, you pay it back in taxes. This can’t be said of Ghana — Benarsen (@benarsen1886) December 2, 2014

@Citi973 Successful implementation of any #FreeSHS policy will have to take some time. But policy is good and should be pursued with alacrity — Mahmoud Jajah (@MahmoudJajah) December 2, 2014
Can we finish paying NSS, Doctors, Nurses and everyone else that we owe before we start pumping money into unsustainable free SHS @Citi973
