Lawyer for Richard Nyamah, one of the people who petitioned the president to impeach the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Lauretta Lamptey has asked CHRAJ boss to allow the Chief Justice to perform her job.
The lawyer Samson Lardy Ayenini who made the call, explained that “the Chief Justice clearly is performing administrative duty placed on her by the Constitution and I would think that she [Lauretta Lamptey] would rather welcome this as a best opportunity to be able to tell her story”
Madam Lauretta Vivian Lamptey, has been accused of spending about $180,000 on rent as well as spending huge sums of money in renovating her official residence.
[contextly_sidebar id=”mWai8kka1Vgcjwu3IF8uHCGljXPtWIhV”]The issue caused public furore with many including the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyir, Frank Annor Dompreh petitioning the president to have her removed.
The Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Woode on Wednesday established a prima facie case against the CHRAJ Commissioner.
In her response, Madam Lamptey expressed disappointment in the decision.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Samson Ayenini said they are satisfied so far with the work of the Chief Justice.
“My client is satisfied and feels a lot of gratification as he waits for the committee to begin to do its work and to continue to see how its goes. The prima facie case once its been made means we have been able to provide sufficient evidence which has been kicking as the matters claimed have been proved in the absence of any adequate evidence to the contrary.”
Also speaking on Eyewitness News on the same issue, the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joseph Osei Owusu who is also the Minority spokesperson on Legal and Constitutional Affairs said “If she [Lauretta Lamptey] really considered that what she was doing was wrong there probably would not have been the need even the matter being petitioned again. In her view she doesn’t see anything wrong with all the subject matter of the complaints so I’m not surprised at all that she still thinks that all those issues contained in the petition constitutes sufficient abuse of office or any wrong doing. In her mind there is nothing wrong.”
