Suspected armed robbers, last week, shot one person and assaulted another during an attack on officers of Ghana Revenue Authority – customs division at their Wodome check point at Kpetoe in the Volta region.
A custom officer in the area told citifmonline.com that the incident happened at about 9 pm on Wednesday.
According to the officer, the robbers emerged from a nearby bush carrying weapons and pounced on the officer on duty demanding his weapon.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Qdm5XGNUOhGdj7m6nGCz7lIC8ji8h8xi”]”They held up the officer and his errand boy at gunpoint demanding the weapons at the check point, they came shouting where are the guns? Where are the guns?” He said.
The robbers reportedly whipped the officer, Samuel akuinor for several minutes, forcing him to give in to their demand and directed them to the room where the gun was.
The robbers broke into the room, ransacked the place and made away with a ten round SMG Ruffle TB3569.
The errand boy at the check point nicknamed Togbui who could not stand the treatment being meted out to the officer threw a chair at one of the robbers.
He subsequently bolted into the bush but one of the robbers opened fire on him, injuring him in the back.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Volta regional hospital.
Meanwhile the customs officer has also been discharged from the hospital.
The Volta Regional Police Commander DCOP Peterking Yentumi who confirmed the incident, has assured that perpetrators of the act would be brought to book as investigations are being conducted.
