The Paramount Chief of the Alavanyo Traditional area in the Volta Region, Togbega Tsedze Atakura has blamed security agencies for the current unrest in the area.
According to him, failure of the security agencies in the Region to arrest offenders in the protracted land dispute between the Nkonya and Alavanyo has led to the continuous conflicts there.
Several people have died while others have lost their properties in the sixty-year-old dispute.
[contextly_sidebar id=”eOdQtuthwZlGDPXoq20RRHI6mDHLYCSO”]A recent attack on a local farmer resulted in the imposition of a 4pm to 6am curfew in the town.
However speaking to Citi News, Togbega Tsedze Atakura said the silence of the Police in arresting perpetrators is worsening the situation.
He explained that “This trouble started in 24th May 1923. Before the end of June 1923, those who were involved were arrested, they were prosecuted and burnished. That is why there was no problem until 1983. For Sixty (60) good years there was no problem because those who were involved were punished and you will see that from 1983 all investigations are inconclusive.”
“No one is punished for anything so this problem will continue. But if those in authority investigate the issues and those who commit these crimes are punished it will serve as a deterrent,” Togbega Atakura added.
