The Black Stars of Ghana will play against the Desert Foxes in the opening Group C fixture of the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea after the draw for the tournament was done in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
The draw was attended by representatives of the 16 participating countries and Ghana was represented by assistant Black Stars coach Maxwell Konadu and officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) including its President, Issa Hayatou.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Africa’s highest ranked side Algeria who made it to the second round of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where they lost to eventual winners Germany.
Ghana will then face South Africa and Senegal in the two other group matches.
Hosts Equatorial Guinea are in Group A with Burkina Faso, Gabon, Congo Brazaville while 2012 winners Zambia will have Tunisia, Cape Verde, DR Congo in Group B. Rivals Cote D’Ivoire and Cameroon are in Group D with Guinea (who qualified with Ghana) and Mali.
Ghana will be based in Mongomo while the hosts will be in Bata. Group D teams will be based in the country’s capital of Malabo while teams in Group B will be stationed in Ebibeyin.
The tournament opens on the 17th of January with Equatorial Guinea and Congo Brazaville playing the first match.
The competition ends on the 8th of February, 2014.
