The Ghana Gas Company has announced it is working to get enough volumes of gas for the Volta River Authority (VRA) from the Atuabo Gas Plant.
A statement signed by the company’s board chairman, Dr Kwesi Botchwey indicated that his outfit will soon pump out about 30 million standard cubic feet of gas to the VRA for energy production.
“Following the receipt of the appropriate permits from the regulatory agencies, Ghana Gas is targeting a test ramp-up of up to 30 Million standard cubic feet per day (30MMSCF) of specification quality lean gas which should allow VRA to produce up to 100 MW of power on a trial basis,” the statement said.

He emphasized that the engineers of Ghana Gas Company are collaborating with VRA’s engineers during this test phase.
On November 10, the Jubilee Oil Fields began supplying natural gas to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant which is expected to be commissioned soon.
The Ghana Gas Processing Plant when commissioned, will help with energy production to solve the power crisis facing the country which is currently undergoing an intensive load shedding exercise.
According to Dr. Botchwey, his outfit is successfully testing its pipelines therefore, it will in the coming days increase gas supply.
“So far, some successes have been chalked and specification quality gas has been produced at the Gas Processing Plant at Atuabo and introduced into the offshore pipeline on a ramping basis,” he said.
He added that presently, there is gas in the entire length of the offshore pipeline from Atuabo all the way to the Ghana Gas’ regulatory and metering station (TRMS) at Aboadze.
The Ghana Gas Board Chairman was expectant that “the commissioning process will continue on a smooth and safe basis for us to achieve successful closure.”
He however cautioned communities close to the company’s pipelines to desist from practices which could endanger their lives.
“We will continue to provide the Ghanaian public with regular updates on the integrated commissioning phase until we are finally ready to provide regular supplies of lean gas to the VRA Aboadze Complex on a commercially sustainable basis,” he added.
