Union Savings and Loans as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has donated 25 pairs of crossing stands, valued at over GHS 20,000 to the National Road Safety Commission.
The support according to the Managing Director of Union, Mr. Philip Oti-Mensah is to augment the efforts of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in enhancing Child Safety profile in the country.
According to him the United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights specifically requires that children are entitled to special care and assistance thus Unions decision to contribute to the NRSC road safety awareness week.
“We seek to make sure that road fatality which involves children as pedestrians are reduced drastically and we believe that that it would augment the efforts of the National Road Safety Commission in enhancing Child Safety profile in the country,’’ Mr. Oti-Mensah said.
He further asked the NRSC to put in place speed management and traffic calming measures, such as speed rumps and other physical self-enforcing measures to reduce the risk of traffic related injuries and deaths for children.
“Going forward, we would also continue to lend our support and collaborate with the National Road Safety Commission to come up with more outreach programme on road safety for children especially with the provision of separate facilities such as the crossing aids and education on how to use them to protect them when crossing roads,’’ he added.
