A Deputy Minister of Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu has revealed that Government has completed the Teshie-Nungua desalination water project.
He said the project will end the perenial water problems of the people of Teshie-Nungua.
Teshie-Nungua and its surrounding environs in the Greater Accra region have been experiencing acute water shortages for more than two decades now.

Parliament had earlier approved a $110 million loan facility for a Water Purchase Agreement between the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Befesa Desalination Development Ghana Limited to help transform seawater into potable water for Ghanaians.
According to the minister the “Project is a 13 million gallons of water per day treatment plant planned to serve about 500,000 people in the area. It was implemented through a Build, Operate, Own and Transfer (BOOT) mechanism.”
“The project… aims at improving water delivery to the following areas; Teshie, Nungua, the Teshie Military barracks, Batsoona, Sakumono and parts of La-Dadekotopon. The project is complete save for me minor installations,” he hinted.
In a related development, the Deputy Minister further indicated that about three of such water related projects have been completed awaiting commissioning.
They include Kpong water supply expansion project, Kpong intake rehabilitation project, and Accra-Tema Metropolitan area (ATMA rural) water supply project.
He said “these four projects will ensure that all the water demand for the Accra Tema Metropolitan Area is met with an excess supply of about 8 million Gallons of water per day.”
