Vantage Mezzanine announced it concluded a transaction with Ghana operator Surfline Communications to provide USD 30 million of expansion capital to the company together with a fund co-investor.
The funds will be used for the on-going expansion of Surfline’s LTE network in Ghana as well as to grow its product distribution and marketing network.
[contextly_sidebar id=”aVHePNahGbpuzG9bQ0N92dGYhPNkUlzi”]The network achieved a successful commercial launch in August and is experiencing tremendous growth in its customer base, in both the consumer and corporate segments, Surfline said.
Surfline is Vantage’s second investment in Ghana.
Surfline officially launched Ghana’s first 4G LTE network in Accra and Tema, giving both consumers and business internet speeds that are ten times faster than 3G services currently on offer.
Marking the historic occasion, Surfline – the only telecoms company owned 100% by Ghanaians – announced a tasty, limited launch offer: free devices and double bonus for life, for all new customers.
Less than 20% of Ghanaians currently use the internet; a statistic not lost on Surfline, who believe this represents an opportunity to inspire businesses, families and students to embrace the internet and achieve and experience much more, in less time.
Speaking to Citi Business news at the launch, Head of Marketing Communications at Surfline, Rosey Fynn said “with strong reliable network, we will actually be able to increase the internet penetration to get Ghana to be a part of a connected world.”
