The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is today Saturday, November 8, 2014 conducting its regional election in the Northern Region to elect new officers for the various positions in the party.
About 348 delegates from 31 constituencies are expected to exercise their franchise in a contest where six persons including the incumbent, Chief Sofo Azorka are gunning for the regional Chairman position.
[contextly_sidebar id=”oOXTznrASMAqYbaspdo6vX58vyyevdNn”]The delegates comprise nine constituency executives, all regional executives, all NDC Members of Parliament from the region, founding fathers and District Chief Executives.
The election is being supervised by the Electoral Commission and witnessed by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
There is heavy security presence and entry into the voting centre is strictly by invitation.
The incumbent Regional Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka in his welcome address commended the delegates and party supporters for keeping the NDC’s spirit high.
Addressing the delegates, all the aspirants appealed to them to elect into office competent people who can match the NPP boot for boot in 2016.
The NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah admonished party supporters to desist from acts which are likely to destroy the umbrella family.
He asked them to work hard and retain the party in government come 2016.
Meanwhile, the NDC in the region on Friday elected its Youth Organizer.
