The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntosu has refuted claims that the murdered Nkwanta South District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Kojo Kenyesu was killed because of his involvement in a land dispute.
According to the Minister there is no evidence to support such claims.
The DCE was gunned down by some unknown assailants at his residence on Monday evening.

The suspects are believed to be the owners of the land the DCE was supposedly involved in.
But the regional Minister insists the DCE was not a party to the land dispute.
“The DCE wasn’t meddling in any land dispute. If you are the District Chief Executive and land belongs to government and people want to encroach, it’s your responsibility to say that look; this is government land and you cannot encroach,” the minister maintained.
She indicated that, “If people are asking for compensation, the best place is to direct them to where they have to go and claim their compensation. He wasn’t meddling in any land dispute, if people say he was meddling in land dispute I do not agree with them.”
The minister who spoke to Citi News after a regional security meeting assured the people that government will maintain the peace in the area and that the security officials will get to the bottom of the matter.
“What we discussed was the need for us to encourage the police to be there and to also organize as VISEC to go there and visit the family and then probably meet with some of the opinion leaders to maintain the peace there because we don’t want any conflict as a result of the murder of the DCE. I can assure the people from Nkwanta South that since a few people have been apprehended we pray that the police will come out with the outcome of their investigations,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region are calling on government to provide them with adequate security.
The MMDCE’s say the incident has sparked fear among them.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday on behalf of his colleagues, DCE for Agortime Ziope, Michael Komla Adjaho insisted that security in the area should be intensified.
“We wish to appeal to his Excellency the president of Ghana through the Volta Regional Minister to consider providing adequate security to all MMDCEs nationwide in the discharge of their duty,” he said.
